Sparkle: memorandum of understanding on a project establishing a new digital corridor between central Asia and Europe

Sparkle and AzerTelecom, the leading wholesale operator in Azerbaijan, signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a partnership as part of the “Digital Silk Way” project in order to create a digital telecommunications corridor between Europe and Asia through Azerbaijan.

Chosen as one of the five best strategic infrastructure projects in Asia at the Global Strategic Infrastructure Leadership Forum in 2020, the Digital Silk Way project was initiated by NEQSOL Holding and implemented by AzerTelecom to develop computer technology and the digital ecosystem in Azerbaijan and transform the country into a digital hub for the region.

On the basis of the agreement which was signed on the fringes of the global telecommunications event Capacity Middle East 2022, the parties agreed to evaluate new commercial opportunities and study the feasibility of jointly establishing and managing a new corridor of end-to-end transmission capacity between central Asia and Europe, including through exploitation of the existing Sparkle infrastructure that extends from Turkey to Italy and to all the main European hubs.
