Minister Terzi applauds approval of the UN Human Rights Council resolution on Syria

“We fully identify with this firm condemnation of the Syrian regime’s unacceptable and spreading human rights violations, and with the emphasis placed on the dramatic humanitarian crisis that is the painful consequence of that repression”. This was Minister for Foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi’s statement following approval in Geneva of a UN Human Rights Council resolution on the Syrian situation.

“Italy joined in sponsoring the resolution and its adoption”, the minister continued, underscoring Italy’s intention that it be interpreted as “testimony of our solidarity with the Syrian people”.

“We reiterate our strong appeal to the Syrian authorities”, Terzi concluded, “for an immediate end to all forms of violent repression and human rights violations, and for access to and distribution of international humanitarian relief to the suffering populations in the areas affected”.
