“The dramatic news from Algeria, where tens of people taken hostage yesterday have lost their lives in the gas facility at In Amenas, are the horrific consequence of a cowardly terrorist attack. The Italian government condems this attack most firmly”. This was the statement by Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi, who continued: “Italy confirms its commitment and determination to combat all forms of extremism and violence, inlcuding in the form of effective international collaboration against terrorism”.
“The government wishes to express its deep condolences and its solidarity with the countries involved, countries with which Italy is linked by friendship and alliance. Those same feelings go out to the victims families”, concluded Terzi. The Minister returned to Rome this evening from Brussels, where the extraordinary meeting of European foreign ministers had discussed measures to tackle the crisis in Mali and the latest developments in this dramatic crisis in Algeria.
