Minister for Foreign Affairs Emma Bonino expressed her full appreciation for the contents of the report presented and for the professional expertise shown by the UN inspectors in who visited the Syrian sites that were the theatre of the chemical weapons attacks.
The minister reiterated the firmest condemnation of the use of weapons of mass destruction, urging the international community to draw the appropriate conclusions with a view to punishing those responsible for such a brutal act.
“I expect the Syrian regime to rapidly comply with the obligations contained in the US-Russian chemical weapons dismantling plan”, the minister commented, expressing the hope that the members of the UN Security Council hasten to adopt a binding resolution dictating the terms of a programme for the elimination of the chemical weapons arsenal held by the Assad regime.
