Dei/Sole 24 Ore – Construction: 9.5 billion in turnover for Italian firms in 2013 (+ 8.6% annually)

The high levels of technology achieved, along with intense economic diplomacy efforts, have led over the past year to doubling the value of contracts awarded in G20 countries, markets notoriously more competitive and difficult to penetrate. The new contracts awarded in 2013 in this area surpassed the 8 billion euro mark to account for 46% of the total. In addition to the conventional sectors of motorway and railway construction, Italian firms are winning a substantial share in the area of environmental plants, healthcare construction, hotels and research centres, a sign that technological expertise and close cooperation with the Farnesina are bearing excellent fruit for the Italian construction industry worldwide. By the end of 2013, Italian firms were operating in 87 countries, 8 of them new additions, on 797 contracts valued at a total of 70 billion euro. The railway sector is the clear leader, with over one-third of the overall value, and network infrastructures (railways, motorways, metro systems, oil and gas pipelines, electrical and water supply grids) account for 80% of Italian firms’ total portfolio.
