The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, last evening had a telephone conversation with the Foreign Minister of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Nikola Poposki.
The conversation – held on the eve of the Foreign and Energy ministerial meetings of the six Balkan Countries, representing a significant step towards the Western Balkans Summit that Italy will preside in Trieste on 12 July 2017 – enabled Minister Alfano and his counterpart to exchange opinions on the preparatory process of the Summit.
“The Western Balkans Summit must add value in strengthening cooperation at regional level and contribute to the joint advancement of the Countries of the area along the path towards European integration,” said Mr Alfano.
While illustrating the priorities of the Italian chairmanship of the Berlin Process and the broad range of initiatives proposed by Rome, the minister heard Skopje’s expectations with respect to the tangible results to be achieved, confirming to Mr Poposki the will to involve the Countries of the area in preparing the Summit on the basis of their effective and concrete priorities.
