The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, said, “We are constantly following the situation in Venezuela with increasing concern. We condemn, as also expressed by President Maduro, the recent violent episodes that occurred in Parliament, which also left Italian MPs injured. We wish to express our solidarity to them.
We hope that the government of Venezuela will be determined in preventing further violence, protecting its citizens, respecting their rights and fundamental freedoms, and ensuring normal living conditions.
We wish to make a strong appeal for dialogue between the government and the opposition for a peaceful solution to the current crisis. We reiterate that we are ready to contribute in any possible mediation.”
