Alfano: “I firmly condemn the vile attack in Ozubulu”

“I firmly condemn the vile attack launched today on the Catholic Church of St. Philip, in Ozubulu, in southeast Nigeria. It resulted all the more brutal and vile because it struck the worshippers while they were in prayer. This yet other massacre of Christians confirms that we cannot lower our guard against acts of terrorism that aim to stifle religious freedom. Targeting religious symbols and the people who believe in them means violating one of the principal fundamental human rights. We express our sympathy with the grief of the relatives of the victims and wish those injured a prompt recovery. I also express my solidarity with the Government of Nigeria, to which we are bound by sentiments of friendship, along with the assurance that Italy will always stand by its side in fighting terrorism and religious extremism,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, following the armed attack perpetrated today on Catholic Church of St. Philip, in Ozubulo, South-East Nigeria.
