The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, will be in New York on 16 and 17 November, in the month in which Italy holds the Presidency of the United Nations Security Council.

On Thursday morning, the minister will meet with the UN Special Representative for Libya, Ghassan Salamé. The Foreign Minister will then chair the Security Council meeting in which Mr Salamé will deliver a report on the situation in Libya.

Following that, the minister’s agenda envisages a meeting with his Libyan counterpart, Mohamed Taher Siyala.

At the end of the meetings, Alfano and Salamé will have a joint press point at the UN Building at 1 p.m. (New York time).

Minister Alfano will then go to “The Michelangelo Hotel”, at 152 West 51st Street, to meet with the Italian companies participating in the Italian Equity Conference organised by the Italian Stock Exchange.

In the afternoon, the minister has scheduled talks with the United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, and with the President of the UN General Assembly, Miroslav Lajcak.

At the end of his first day in New York, Minister Alfano will meet with the Italian community in New York at the Italian Consulate General.

On Friday at 11 a.m., the Foreign Minister will meet with representatives of the Italian media at the offices of the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations, at 885 Second Avenue.  

Minister Alfano will then chair the United Nations Security Council session in which the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will deliver a report on the challenges to security in the Mediterranean.

The Italian chief diplomat will wind up his diplomatic mission with a bilateral meeting with the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Il ministro degli Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale, Angelino Alfano, è stato a New York il 16 e il 17 novembre, mese in cui l’Italia detiene la Presidenza del Consiglio di Sicurezza delle Nazioni Unite.

Nella mattinata di giovedì, il ministro ha incontrato l’Inviato Speciale dell’Onu per la Libia, Ghassan Salamé. Subito dopo, il titolare della Farnesina ha presieduto la seduta del Consiglio di Sicurezza dedicata ad una informativa dello stesso Salame’ sulla situazione in Libia.

Successivamente, il ministro Alfano ha incontrato il suo omologo libico, Mohamed Taher Siyala.

Al termine di questi appuntamenti, alle 13.00 (ora di New York), ha avuto luogo al Palazzo di Vetro un punto stampa congiunto di Alfano e Salamé.

Il capo della Farnesina si è trasferito poi al “The Michelangelo Hotel”, 152 West 51st Street, dove ha incontrato le imprese italiane partecipanti all’Italian Equity Conference, organizzata dalla Borsa Italiana.

Nel pomeriggio, il ministro ha avuto colloqui con la Rappresentante permanente degli Stati Uniti all’Onu, Nikki Haley, e con il Presidente dell’Assemblea Generale Onu, Miroslav Lajcak.

A conclusione del primo giorno, Alfano ha incontrato una rappresentanza della collettività italiana a New York presso il Consolato Generale d’Italia.

Nella giornata di venerdì il ministro degli Esteri ha incontrato la stampa italiana alle 11.00, ora locale, presso sede della Rappresentanza italiana alle Nazioni Unite, 885 Second Avenue.

In seguito il ministro Alfano ha presieduto la seduta del Consiglio di Sicurezza durante la quale il Segretario Generale delle Nazioni Unite, Antonio Guterres, ha fatto una relazione sulle sfide di sicurezza nel Mediterraneo.

Prima di terminare la sua missione, il capo della Farnesina ha avuto un colloquio bilaterale con lo stesso Guterres.
