“News of the possible use of chemical agents raises alarm and concern”

“We express our indignation for the dozens of civilian casualties, including women and children, caused by the latest air strikes in the area of Damascus, and particularly in Douma,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano.

“News of the possible use of chemical agents on the large number of innocent civilians involved raises alarm and concern and should be a priority issue to verify,” continued the chief of Italian diplomacy.

“It is urgent to meet the humanitarian needs of civilians in Ghouta by ceasing hostilities in line with the UN Security Council Resolution 2401 (2018). All the parties in the conflict, starting from the Damascus government, are liable to comply with the obligations laid down in humanitarian law, including assuring humanitarian access to civilian populations in a state of need,” Minister Alfano concluded.
