Vice Minister Del Re had bilateral meetings on the fringes of the “Italy-Africa Conference”

On the fringes of the 2nd Italy-Africa Conference, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re, continued her round of bilateral meetings that had begun the day before.

With Egypt’s Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs, Hamdi Sanad Loza, Vice Minister Del Re took the opportunity to reaffirm Italy’s strong expectations for developments in the case of Giulio Regeni. Her interlocutor assured her that the issue is a top priority for the Egyptian Government.

With the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Equatorial Guinea, Simeon Oyono Esono Angue, Vice Minister Del Re brought up the case of Fulgencio Obiang Esono, a man with dual Italian-Equatoguinean nationality, who went missing in Togo last September, asking him for the cooperation of the Malabo authorities.   

Vice Minister Del Re also met with the Foreign Ministers of Guinea, of the Republic of Central Africa, and of Sierra Leone and with the Deputy Foreign Ministers of Chad, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda and Somalia. Her interlocutors expressed great appreciation for the achievements of the Conference and for the attention that Italy devotes to the African continent and to its single Countries. On her part, Vice Minister Del Re expressed Italy’s intention to tighten relations with these Countries and to support the interest shown by Italian companies and investors for their Countries.

Lastly, in a meeting with the Executive Secretary of IGAD, Mahboub Maalim, Vice Minister Del Re made an overview of Italy’s ongoing collaboration with the Organization grouping the Countries of the Horn of Africa and the possible future developments with the aim of supporting and favouring the positive political processes underway in the region.
