Nuclear Energy: Joint effort to avoid terrorist threat, Sereni said

“We need a common vision against the threat of nuclear terrorism” has stated the Vice Minister Marina Sereni speaking in Vienna at the Third International Conference on Nuclear Safety, organised by the International Atomic Energy Agency (Aiea).

“We must make every effort – added Sereni – to minimise the vulnerability of nuclear plants and nuclear materials. And we must work together to prevent terrorists and other destabilizing actors from exploiting the remaining vulnerabilities in the global security system”.

“It is therefore necessary – continued the Deputy Minister – a collective effort to achieve universal adherence to all relevant international instruments, the harmonization of legal and regulatory frameworks”.

“Italy remains fully committed to achieving a better international nuclear safety environment. We strongly support the central role of IAEA in the global nuclear safety framework and – concluded Sereni. We encourage all States to cooperate with the Agency to fulfil their nuclear safety responsibilities”.
