Today at the Farnesina, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), Ambassador Ettore Francesco Sequi, met with the Executive Director for Italy at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Domenico G. Fanizza. Ambassador Sequi recalled the positive collaboration with the Fund, also under the Italian presidency of the G20, and expressed his strong appreciation for the contribution of Italian officials serving at the IMF.
In particular, the Secretary General reaffirmed the relevance of international financial institutions in promoting economic stability at global level. He also recalled Italy’s decision to pledge part of its Special Drawing Rights to more vulnerable economies, in line with the priorities set forth by the Italian presidency of the G20 in 2021.
During the meeting, the Secretary General thanked Mr. Fanizza for the work carried out in the capacity of Executive Director for Italy at the International Monetary Fund and for its consistency with Italy’s policy in this context.
