Montevideo, Undersecretary Tripodi participated in political consultations with Uruguay’s Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs and Minister of Industry

Five years after the last official visit to Uruguay by a representative of the Italian government, the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi, took part in bilateral political consultations today in Montevideo with her counterpart, Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Nicolás Albertoni, and with Minister of Industry Elisa Facio.

Confirming with conviction the Italian government’s utmost attention to South America, Undersecretary Tripodi said: “Italy and Uruguay have always had excellent bilateral relations, also thanks to their close historical and cultural ties”. She added: “My visit will pave the way for other missions of the Italian Government, because Latin America is a priority of our foreign policy”.

Finally, the Undersecretary expressed her utmost appreciation for Uruguay’s participation in numerous EU regional programmes, in which Italy plays a leading role.
