The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Giorgio Silli, participated in the Second Latin America and Caribbean Economic Forum, held in Panama and organised by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) in cooperation with the Republic of Panama. The Forum brought together six Heads of State and Government from Latin America, as well as institutional and economic representatives from over fifteen countries and international organisations. In his address, the Undersecretary emphasised the central role of sustainable development as an indispensable pillar for ensuring peace, security, democracy and prosperity, and reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to fostering inclusive and responsible growth in the region.
On the margins of the Forum, Undersecretary Silli held an extensive series of institutional meetings. In particular, he met with Panama’s Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Environment, the Vice Minister for Multilateral Affairs and Cooperation and the President of the National Assembly.
These meetings provided an opportunity to review economic and commercial opportunities for Italian companies, which were further explored through discussions with the Italo-Panamanian Chamber of Commerce and Italian businesses operating locally.
The Undersecretary also held meetings with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Secretary General of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), the Executive Director of the Central American Integration System (SICA), the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), and Susana Sumelzo Jordán, Spain’s Secretary of State for Ibero-America and the Caribbean. In his meeting with the President of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (PARLATINO), the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and interregional cooperation in the current international context was reaffirmed.
