The project of European humanitarian corridors represents “a challenge” for Italy and the government will work to make it a “mechanism that will fully embody European values”. This statement was made by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re, as she spoke today at the press conference to present the project of European humanitarian corridors, at the Chamber of Deputies. The project is supported by the Federation of Evangelical Churches in Italy (Fcei) and by the Commission of Churches for Migrants in Europe (CCME).
“Italy believes deeply in the EU and considers it its main counterpart, and we will work together with other countries to reach a consensus of 27,” said Del Re, stressing the need for the instrument to be provided with financial support also at the European level: that of humanitarian corridors “is a fundamental approach at a time when the narrative on the migration issue is underpinned by a perception that is often very far removed from reality. This is a virtuous path that brings together social partners who do not always meet because they also differ in their narrative approach,” said Del Re, according to whom the instrument of European humanitarian corridors constitutes an “interesting answer” to many of the questions asked at the European level on the theme of migration and makes it possible to have an impact so that the issue can be appropriately dealt with. The humanitarian corridors initiative, concluded the Deputy Minister, “offers a life plan and a path of concrete integration which can guarantee balance and serenity in addressing the issue”, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs “has already made available a team of experts who will draw up a feasible and concrete proposal “.
