“Presa di coscienza sulla natura” in Collezione Farnesina

We would like to welcome “Epiphany about Nature” (1976) by Mario Giacomelli (Senigallia, 1925 – 2000) to the Farnesina Collection. The work forms part of the Epiphany about Nature series comprising aerial shots taken from a Piper airplane. As with his other collections, Giacomelli portrays the countryside near his hometown of Senigallia, transforming it into abstract designs through the use of strong contrasts and overexposure.

He wrote “I don’t show the countryside, but the signs, the memories of the existence of ‘my’ countryside”. The black and white photographs are not intended as documentary pieces, but rather use intense, evocative tones to portray a natural countryside that expresses the interior world of the photographer.
