The Farnesina Collection welcomes a new work, “Ex voto” (2007) by Antonio Biasiucci (Dragoni, 1961).
The work consists of 12 photographs depicting different forms of votive offering, taken by the artist during a visit to the chapel of St Giuseppe Moscati, a doctor, in the Chiesa del Gesù Nuovo in Naples. In this work Biasiucci has composed a photographic mosaic that speaks of familiar domestic stories, of memory and matter, light and shade – recurring elements of his exploration.
Biasiucci’s works include the “Magma” series (1987-1995), produced in collaboration with the Osservatorio Vesuviano, in which he documented and explored the material aspects of Italy’s active volcanoes. In “Pani” (2009-2011), his images of loaves of bread in the Campanian tradition emerge from a dark background as mysterious objects suspended in the darkness of the universe.
