On Wednesday, 11 May 2016, at 11 a.m. an event will be held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations to celebrate 150 years of Diplomatic Relations between Italy and Japan. The celebration is part of the new edition of the new “Farnesina Open Doors” cycle of events.
The Ministry’s Director General for Internationalisation and Global Issues, Massimo Gaiani, the President of the Italy-Japan Foundation, Umberto Vattani, and the Director of the Japanese Institute of Culture, Naomi Takasu, will explore, along with other scholars and experts, the fundamental issues characterising the Italian-Japanese bilateral relations.
At the close of the event, participants will be invited to visit the documentary and bibliographical exhibition on the bilateral Friendship and Trade Treaty signed in Edo on 25 August 1866, the photographic show “Meian, Japanese chiaroscuros” by artist Maria Bonanotte, and the Foreign Ministry’s collection of contemporary art.
