The “Italian Foreign Policy Community” intends to promote regular interaction between some of the main Italian players operating in the field of research and analysis of international studies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in view of fostering strategic reflection on Italy’s action in the world. The project also aims to provide a channel for ongoing dialogue between the Foreign Ministry and an important component of civil society, in view of enhancing the country’s best resources. Five research bodies are taking part in the initiative: Aspen Italia, the Centro Studi Politica Internazionale (CESPI), the European Council on Foreign Affairs, Rome office (ECFR), the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) and the Istituto per gli Studi di Politica Internazionale (ISPI).
The project takes the form of a series of round table discussions between Italian researchers, analysts and diplomats on the main topics of interest for Italian and European foreign policy. The aim is to develop analyses based on a plurality of perspectives, capable of better identifying the dynamics and trends taking place in the various international scenarios. Listening to and comparing different viewpoints, in fact, ensures greater depth and awareness in the decision-making processes that aim to pursue national interests.
Each panel discussion envisages the publication of a policy paper by the organisations involved, bringing together their analyses and positions on the topic under discussion.
