Greece – Week of Italian Cuisine in the World spans from cinema to archaeology

The Italian Embassy in Greece presents the initiatives organised for the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World (November 21-27) with the following post: “Being convinced that gathering around a table during the festivities and big occasions anywhere in the World, but especially in Italy and in Greece, means rediscovering traditions, shared values and an opportunity to spend some time together, we invite you to take part in the initiatives scheduled in Athens which include conferences, tasting events and the screening of Italian films.” The programme begins at 6:30 p.m. on 22 November at the Italian School of Archaeology in Athens with a conference on cooking and nutrition in ancient Italy and Greece, organised in partnership with the Maniatakis Foundation, with contributions by Prof Petros Themelis of the University of Crete, Dr Antonia Trichopoulou, president of the Hellenic Health Foundation, and Prof Emanuele Papi, the director of the Italian School of Archaeology in Athens. The conference will be followed by a tasting of the traditional products of Italian and Greek antiquity. At 7 p.m. on 24 November, the Italian Cultural Institute in Athens, in association with the Centro di Studi Ionii, will host a lecture on wine routes by Professor Nikos Moschonas entitled “I Veneziani e il vino dell’Oriente (XIV-XVI sec.)” (“Venetians and the Wine of the Orient (14^th– 16^th Centuries))”, followed by an Italian wine tasting event. From 21 to 25 November, on programme at the Italian Cultural Institute will be a series of film screenings narrating how the Italian way of sitting around a table has been portrayed in the history of the cinema. Lastly, from 21 to 27 November, numerous Italian restaurants in Greece will offer a menu or a dish dedicated to the first Week of Italian Cuisine in the World. The initiative, organised in conjunction with the Italian-Greek Chambers of Commerce in Athens and Thessaloniki, was also joined by “Botrini’s”, the restaurant of world-renowned chef Ettore Botrini, who is the guest of honour at Athens’s first Week of Italian Cuisine in the World.
