Italy-Algeria: Gentiloni, common effort at inclusive negotiations on Libya

Italy and Algeria “will work together so that UN Envoy in Libya Bernardino Leon includes in the talks those who have thus far not participated in Geneva”, said Minister for Foreign Affairs Paolo Gentiloni at the end of a meeting in Algiers with his counterpart Ramtane Lamamra. He also underscored that “all possible means” would be used “to put political pressure on Tripoli and on all those who have not participated” in the Geneva talks.

Reconciliation process necesssary
Gentiloni added that “the solution is neither the country’s division nor the military option, rather what is needed is a process of reconciliation”. The minister specified that Italy and Algeria agree on “supporting Leon and the work he is doing”.
