Directorate-General for Global Affairs

Name of the structure Directorate-General for Global Affairs
Competences The Directorate-General for Global Issues is responsible for the following tasks:
a) oversees processes and matters relating to global governance;
b) monitors economic, financial, and global issues related to processes involving groups of industrialized countries;
c) addresses issues relating to international regulation in the energy and environmental sectors;
d) ensures, in consultation with the other competent Directorates-General, the coherence of sustainability policies;
e) deals with matters relating to the international organizations and institutions responsible for the matters referred to in subparagraphs a) through d).
f) promotes, in agreement with the other competent Directorates-General, bilateral relations of a political, economic, cultural, and other nature, conducts related negotiations, and is responsible for the analysis, definition, and implementation of diplomatic action with the countries of Central, South, and Southeast Asia, the Far East and Oceania, Central and South America, and Sub-Saharan Africa, subject to any changes that may be made with respect to individual countries or groups of countries identified by ministerial decree.
g) ensures Italy’s participation in the activities of regional international organizations and cooperation organizations related to the geographical areas referred to in subparagraph f).
