“Everyone must contribute to putting the maximum pressure on Assad in order to avoid another massacre”, commented Minister for Foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi, expressing his deep concern over the “disturbing” news of the government forces’ siege of the city Syrian of Aleppo.
The Italian Cooperation has already launched emergency interventions on the ground on behalf of the weakest segments of the civilian society, especially children, and the Italian government is considering additional humanitarian aid.
France and UK also concerned
Paris and London have also voiced their concerns over the attack on Aleppo. According to a foreign ministry spokesperson, France is calling for “an end to the violence and the use of heavy artillery by the regime”, and according to British Foreign Secretary William Hague “this totally unacceptable escalation of the conflict could lead to devastating civilian losses and a humanitarian disaster. A massacre could be imminent”.
