Italy is playing a leading role in Paris at the 37th General Conference of UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation. The French capital is playing host, from 5 to 20 November 2013, to the 195 member states’ representatives, who will be debating the UN agency’s future projects and prospects.
Italy is one of UNESCO’s strongest and most active supporters
The delegation from Italy – one of UNESCO’s strongest and most active supporters – will include the Minister for Culture and Tourism, Massimo Bray, and the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Mario Giro.
The 2013 Conference features a number of important events. These include the Leaders’ Forum, with a debate by member countries’ Heads of State and Government and Foreign Ministers on UNESCO’s contribution to the global agenda post-2015. Other events include Irina Bokova’s formal re-election as Director General, a discussion of the 2014-2021 medium-term strategy, and the preparation of the 2014-2015 programme and budget.
