Syria, Libya. Minister Gentiloni attends the Ministerial Meeting in Paris

Minister Gentiloni is attending the Quint Ministerial Meeting on Syria, Libya, the Ukrainian crisis and Yemen at the Paris Quai d’Orsay today together with the U.S. Secretary of State and the foreign ministers of Germany, France, the UK, and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs. Discussions will mainly focus on the peace talks for Syria, which are scheduled to resume tomorrow in Geneva.

“Our goal is still far off, because this is a hurdle race, although some headway is being made,” said Minister Gentiloni on commenting the latest political developments in Libya, and especially the recent meeting of the members of the Political Dialogue in Libya. Minister Gentiloni described it as “a sign of the acceleration in taking the first steps to stabilise Libya, which is absolutely essential for Italy.” He went on: “Today we have taken good decisions in Paris, acknowledging the outcome of the Libyan Dialogue and hoping that the support given to al-Sarraj’s government might result in the beginning of a process to install the government in Tripoli, an extraordinary step in starting off the required stabilisation process to stop Daesh and human trafficking and to have a more stable Country only 300-400 km from Europe.”
