At the end of the first round of the Geneva peace talks, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, underscored the “importance of international support – as broad and cohesive as possible – to the political process in Syria.” He also emphasised the need to guarantee “the full respect of the roadmap outlined by the Resolution 2254 of the UN Security Council.”
The Foreign Minister also expressed his appreciation for the great effort made by UN Envoy, Staffan de Mistura, to favour dialogue between the Syrian parties.
“Also the constructive approach shown by the Syrian opposition (HNC) in this first round of negotiations is reason for satisfaction because it gives an inkling of the will to achieve, as soon as possible, the aim of peace that we all pursue,” said Minister Alfano.
