MigraVenture

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mario Giro, attended an event at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on the methods and results of the MigraVenture programme. It was funded by the Italian Cooperation Service as part of the voluntary multilateral contribution to the International Organisation for Migration.

MigraVenture is an innovative programme designed to support the private sector in Africa by using its diaspora to its advantage. It is for African migrants who are business people, or aspiring entrepreneurs, who live in Italy and want to start up new businesses in their home countries. The programme includes a training course on creating a business, obtaining loans, learning marketing strategies and the risks and opportunities of the African market. It also shows how to create a business plan, pilot funding for projects with the highest social and economic development potential and technical assistance and support for start-ups.

The event was attended by delegates from embassies of the countries of origin or transit of the migrants, Italian civil servants, the public, and representatives from universities, research centres, foundations, trade associations, local and international organisations (OO.II.) with offices in Italy, the FAO, IFAD, UNIDO and the World Bank.
