A class of young aspiring chefs in the kitchen, a menu rigorously inspired by Italian cuisine, an exceptional jury panel chaired by the Italian Ambassador to Kenya, Alberto Pieri: these are the ingredients of the special event organised by Alice for Children charitable association. The event which took place a few days ago in Nairobi was organised in conjunction with the Italian Embassy and ‘Il Cucchiaio d’Argento’, with the support of the vocational school Carlo Porta based in Milan.
This is the first of a series of culinary events, which are scheduled to take place in Kenya during the 4th Italian Cuisine Week in the World 2019 as part of the “Italian Way of Life” initiative.
The Residence of the Italian Ambassador in Nairobi and at the Kilili Baharini Resort in Malindi will be two unique backdrops for the evenings dedicated to the presentation of a selection of recipes taken from the historic book entitled “Pellegrino Artusi e l’Unità italiana in cucina” [Pellegrino Artusi and Italy’s Unity in the Kitchen] of Casa Artusi. The recipes will be translated into Swahili for the first time.
The initiative is promoted by the Italian Cultural Institute in Nairobi and seeks to disseminate Italy’s culinary culture in Kenya and in the neighbouring Swahili-speaking countries by promoting the meeting of culinary traditions.
Several Italian restaurants in the capital city and along the coast will join the Week and organize events with menus dedicated to Artusi’s recipes and to the Italian culinary tradition.
