Italian Cuisine Week: ‘Pizza for Peace’ in Niger

The Italian Embassy in Niamey opened the Italian Cuisine Week in Niger with the “Pizza for Peace” project. Antonio Cera’s “Fornosammarco”, a point of excellence of the Apulia Region, organised a course for the making of bread and pizza dough for a group of refugee women hosted at the UNHCR centre and Nigerien women beneficiaries of the IOM’s “IDEE” Project to develop women’s entrepreneurship. “Pizza, a simple and nutritious food, is the symbol of Italy par excellence,” said the Italian Ambassador to Niger, Marco Prencipe. He went on: “Its Neapolitan recipe was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 2017. This is the reason why we chose it as the symbol of the first edition of Italian Cuisine Week in Niger, because of its highly symbolic value in unifying peoples.”

The Italian Cuisine Week in Niger will continue with a number of thematic evenings dedicated to Italian gastronomy with the participation of the most popular restaurants in Niamey.
