The Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, and the Italian Minister of the Interior, Pref. Matteo Piantedosi, present today at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs the “Punto Italia”– a travelling consular post set up on a mobile office of the Italian National Police, which will travel around Germany to provide assistance to the many Italian supporters following the Italian national football team.
The joint initiative of the Italian National Police and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is unprecedented. The “Punto Italia” will be positioned in the places where greatest influx of Italian fans is expected, such as stations or stadiums. The cities where the Italian national football team will play, and where the Punto Italia will be located, are Dortmund (15 June Italy-Albania), Gelsenkirchen (20 June Italy-Spain) and Leipzig (24 June Italy-Croatia). Further stages will depend on the outcome of the qualifiers.
At the mobile office of the Italian National Police, which will sport the livery of the institute, Italian National Police operators will also be present, together with Ministry of Foreign Affairs personnel on duty at the Consular Offices in Germany responsible for the area. Together, they will offer a range of assistance services, namely contact with family members in Italy in case of need; issuance of emergency travel documents (ETD); assistance and/or linguistic intermediation with the local law enforcement or in case of health needs; legal assistance.
