Terrorist attacks in Tripoli, Lebanon: Comments by Foreign Minister Emma Bonino

“These are odious episodes of violence that have cut short innocent lives and deserve our firmest possible condemnation”. These were Foreign Minister Emma Bonino’s words on hearing of today’s terrorist attacks in Tripoli in Lebanon.

Minister Bonino expressed her “heartfelt sympathy for the victims’ families” and underscored “the need for a rapid and thorough investigation to discover those responsible. […] Those who have committed these terrible crimes must be brought to justice to respond for their actions”.

“I strongly urge all sides to exercise the utmost self-control in their actions and avoid a spiral of retaliation”. Minister Bonino concluded: “A vital condition to safeguard the security, stability and, indeed, the national unity of Lebanon is a commitment by all of the country’s political forces to go on supporting a policy of neutrality with respect to the crises afflicting the region”.
