Foreign Minister Gentiloni holds telephone conversation on the situation in Libya

Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Gentiloni, today held telephone conversations with  Algeria’s Minister for Maghreb Affairs, Abdelkader Messahel, Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, Qatar’s Foreign Minister, Khalid Bin Mohammad Al-Attiyah and Turkey’s Foreign Minister, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu to discuss the situation in Libya.

All the ministers voiced their firm condemnation of the attacks and terrorist actions conducted in these past few days in Libya, pointing out that the concern over such attacks should lead to renew the commitment to support the formation of a Government of National Accord.  It is only through the implementation of the Skhirat Agreement and UN Resolution 2259 – the ministers unanimously said – that the stabilisation of Libya can start and thereby lead to a effectively respond to the Daesh threat.

Next Jan. 19 a meeting will be held in Rome between the political directors of the Countries represented at the Rome-hosted Conference for Libya of Dec. 13, 2015.
