Telephone conversation between Minister Alfano and his Iranian colleague

Today, the Minister of Foreign  Affairs and International  Cooperation,  Angelino Alfano, had a telephone conversation  with his colleague, the Foreign Minister of Iran,  Mohammad Javad Zarif.

During the telephone conversation, Minister Alfano  expressed the “condolences and solidarity of Italy to the people and the Government of Iran for the brutal terrorist attack which occurred this morning in Tehran”. Minister Alfano added that “Italy and Iran are united in their common commitment to fight against terrorism, which strikes everywhere with its utter disdain for human life.”
Minister Alfano discussed, with his interlocutor, about the crisis which is affecting Qatar and other countries in the region. He asserted that “it would be expedient for the parties involved to abstain from taking any action that might further compromise the situation, and resort to the good offices of the Gulf Cooperation Council.” The head of the Farnesina added, “Italy supports the efforts made by countries that are working to reach a diplomatic solution to the crisis and welcomes all the initiatives that seek to reduce tensions in the Gulf region.”
