“I am pleased that footage taken by the security cameras at the Cairo underground railway in the hours before Giulio Regeni disappeared have been delivered to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Rome,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano.
“The recovery of such material has been made possible by a joint effort conducted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Cairo and the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Rome. Egypt’s investigative authorities have worked with commitment. Judicial cooperation has increased over the past few months, also thanks to the work carried by our ambassador to Egypt, Giampaolo Cantini,” said the Minister.
“These images have long been sought by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Rome and their recovery will now add an important element to the investigation. The pressing interest and team work shown by the institutions in investigating the case will contribute to achieve full clarity on the tragic death of Giulio,” added Minister Alfano.
