Today ends the two-day visit to Mali of the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re. The Deputy Minister met extensively with Mali’s newly appointed Prime Minister, Boubou Cissè, who was appointed on 22 April. This was his first international engagement as he is working on forming his government. “My presence here in Bamako is meaningful”, said the Deputy Minister at the end of their meeting. “The Prime Minister and I had a fruitful exchange on various topics: migration, the link between security and development and economic cooperation, and we agreed on our mutual interest to develop cooperation to strengthen our partnership”.
The Deputy Minister then visited the MINUSMA UN peace-keeping mission and the EUCAP Mali and EUTM Mali European missions. She also visited the UNFPA support centre for victims of gender-based violence, the UNICEF centre for child malnutrition and the WFP. Lastly, Del Re met with Italian officials and experts working for international organisations in the country: “Italy has been present in Mali for many years in various sectors and today is the start of a new chapter”, said the Deputy Minister.
