
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, chaired the high-event meeting on Somalia together with Somalia’s President, Farmajo, Ethiopia’s President, Sahle-Uork Zeudè and the US Undersecretary of State, Hale. The meeting was attended by the Chairperson of the African Commission of the African Union, Moussa Faki, by the most important donors of Somalia, by representatives of international financial institutions, some UN Agencies (UNECA, UNODC) and the Regional Partners of Mogadishu.
In his speech, Minister Di Maio reaffirmed the need for Somalia to go on being high on the list of priorities of the international agenda and then highlighted five issues that are of fundamental importance for the future of the Country, namely: the electoral process which will lead to elections next year; the strengthening of international coordination; security, with special reference to countering terrorism; the economic situation, dwelling upon the need to promote development and improve the living conditions of the Somali people, and the humanitarian emergency.
