Secretary General Ambassador Ettore Francesco Sequi attends international meeting “The Cry for Peace. Religions and cultures in dialogue” organised by the Community of Sant’Egidio

Today, 25 October 2022, the Secretary General of the Farnesina, Ambassador Ettore Francesco Sequi, attended the international meeting “The Cry for Peace. Religions and cultures in dialogue” organised by the Community of Sant’Egidio. Speakers at the event included by the President of the Italian Republic and representatives of the world’s major religions. Its title refers to the difficulty of upholding peace in an increasingly tense and polarised world.

“Italy firmly believes in dialogue and in the need to find solutions to the most pressing challenges through multilateral cooperation. The human security dimension has become increasingly prominent in Italy’s foreign policy, with an approach based on three concrete areas: food security, global health and collaboration with civil society organisations in humanitarian work and development cooperation”. This was the Secretary General’s summary of the key lines followed by the Farnesina in its work.

Promoting inter-cultural and inter-faith dialogue is an integral part of the Farnesina’s commitment to safeguarding and fostering human rights and the fundamental freedoms, added Ambassador Sequi, speaking in the Forum on “No One Is Saved Alone: Dialogue And multilateralism in a divided world”.

The Community of Sant’Egidio is an important interlocutor for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the framework of its international campaign for a universal moratorium on the death penalty, mediation in various crisis scenarios, development cooperation programmes and the operation and oversight of humanitarian corridors.
