The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been working since the first reports of the large landslide that struck an area on the border between Nepal and Tibet. The Crisis Unit is liaising with the Consulate General of Italy in Kolkata, the Honorary Consulate in Kathmandu and the Embassy of Italy in Beijing to ascertain whether any Italian citizens are involved and to provide assistance, where necessary, to them in the area.
According to the records on the ‘Dove siamo nel mondo’ portal (Where we are in the world), there are about 90 Italian nationals present in Nepal and Tibet. Two tourists with their guide were stranded upstream of a landslide that blocked a road, they are in contact with the Ministry. Checks are currently being carried out to ascertain the condition of the other Italian nationals in the area.
