The discovery of the bodies of the Italian mountaineers Marco Di Marcello and Markus Kirchler, who were swept away by an avalanche in Nepal on 3 November 2025, was confirmed yesterday.
The bodies have been transferred to Kathmandu, where they have been formally identified. They will now undergo the post-mortem examination required under local law before arrangements can be made for the repatriation of either the bodies or the ashes, in accordance with the families’ wishes.
The Consulate General of Italy in Kolkata, which has jurisdiction over Nepal, has been following the case from the outset. An official from the Consulate is currently in Kathmandu to liaise with the local authorities and provide the families with all necessary assistance.
