Deputy Minister Emanuela Del Re inaugurated in Dakar the headquarters of the Italian Cultural Institute, which reopens in the Senegalese capital after 25 years.
“We want to strengthen the already close link with Senegal and, in general, with an extraordinary continent” – said Del Re in his speech – “Africa is a land of opportunities that can be achieved by pursuing the values of tolerance and peace; culture is at the service of these values”.
“Dakar and Senegal” – he continued – “are an essential point of reference for the promotion and enhancement of the continent’s increasingly rich and vibrant cultural heritage”.
The Deputy Minister also chaired the coordination meeting of the Italian Cultural Institutes of Sub-Saharan Africa at the end of the programme “Italy, Cultures, Africa”, the annual review conceived and promoted by the Directorate-General to promote the country system and to strengthen dialogue and cultural cooperation with Africa.
During the visit, the Deputy Minister attended the signing of a collaboration agreement between the Pigorini Ethnographic Museum of Rome and the Museum of Black Civilizations of Dakar. The agreement between the two museums, a project conceived and strongly desired by Vice Minister Del Re, is an example of a partnership between two prestigious institutions based on multimedia and modernity.
