Italian Design Day, launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in partnership with the Triennale di Milano, is aimed at promoting Italian contemporary design in the world. To celebrate the Day, nearly 100 diplomatic offices around the world and 100 “Ambassadors” of Italian culture (designers, entrepreneurs, journalists, critics, teachers) will narrate Italy’s project designs of excellence. Design in general and Italian design in particular arises from the idea that beauty should apply to every-day products. It influences lifestyles and society at large and must keep in step with continuously renewed tastes and trends.
Through design, objects such as lamps, chairs, pans and bicycles can add beauty and appeal to our lives. In Italy, design pervades the Country’s culture, art, and philosophy and its success is founded on the know-how of craftsmanship, the spirit of experimentation and above all on the projection of artistic beauty onto objects. Elena Salmistraro will be the Ambassador of Italian design at the event organised at 2 p.m. on 1 March in Zurich by the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) in association with the Italian Consulate General and the Art Lyceum.
