Germany – La Grande Bellezza, Italian design of four wheels

The Italian Cultural Institute in Cologne, Germany, will hold an event dedicated to automobiles at 7 p.m. next 2 March, as part of International Italian Design Day. Professor Paolo Tumminelli, from the Köln International School of Design, will deliver a lecture entitled “La Grande Bellezza, Italian design of four wheels”. Automobiles – for the better or for the worse – are a magnificent cultural and social design project. Post-war Italy played a fundamental role in defining the modern concept underlying the design of automobiles, establishing the methods and creating new trends. Now Italian automobiles are acknowledged to be very beautiful worldwide. A sequence of images will trace the history of the Italian style of automobiles and show the roots and the themes of a myth that, even if different in the globalised version, is still alive today.
