Great success of the short film screening organised by the Italian Consulate in Basel for the 17th edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World.
The guests of the Italian Consulate were Gisella Calabrese and Giuseppe Mallozzi, respectively the artistic director and the president of the Cultural Association “Il Sogno di Ulisse”. They presented six Italian short films selected at the 6th Edition of the Festival: Mario Piredda’s “A casa mia”, the winner of the CortoFiction Italia category; “Buffet” by Santa De Santis and Alessandro D’Ambrosio; “Gionatan con la G” by Gianluca Santoni, winner of the best leading actor award; “Mostri” by Adriano Giotti, recipient of special mention; “Ratzinger vuole tornare” by Valerio Vestoso; “Uomo in mare” by Emanuele Palamara. The event’s special guest star was Basel-born film director Michael Flume who, thanks to his decade-long experience in the United States, is having great success with his latest film “L’homme du cercle”, which will soon be released in local theatres.
“The idea – explained Consul Camerota – arises from the conviction that, in addition to the great history-making and world-renowned masters of the Italian cinema, there is a thriving and dynamic world of contemporary authors who find short films to be an effective means of expression, who need to be promoted for export. With this ‘Aperovisivo in libertà’ event, the Consulate reaffirms its strategy to involve not only fellow-Italians but also Swiss citizens and numerous expats living in Basel in its pursuit of the goal of combining the art of short films with the pleasure of exchanging experiences through the promotion of the Italian language in the cinema.”
