During the meeting, Minister Gentiloni emphasized that Italy is closely following the evolving situation in Venezuela, in the light of the strong ties between the two Countries and of the large Italian community residing there. Minister Gentiloni also drew Minister Rodriguez’s attention on the increasing difficulties faced by the Italian community, especially in terms of health care services and security, and called on the Venezuelan Authorities to take action on this point, as well as on the condition of Italian businesses operating in the Country.
The two Ministers also exchanged views on the recent developments of Venezuela’s political situation and Italy expressed its support to the ongoing mediation promoted by former Prime Ministers Zapatero, Fernandez and Torrijos, in the hope that it might mitigate internal tensions which intensify the effects of the current economic crisis on the population.
