The special edition of the Newsletter of the Italian Education System in the World, dedicated to the creative writing contest “Calvino Invisibilia,” is now online. The contest was aimed at students of Italian schools abroad, Italian sections in foreign and international schools, and Italian language courses at foreign universities.
Organised by Office V of the Directorate-General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in collaboration with the University for Foreigners of Siena, Farm Cultural Park, and Napoli Comicon, the contest celebrates the centenary of Italo Calvino’s birth. It invited students to imagine and describe a fictional city, exploring its social, artistic, or environmental dimensions, inspired by Calvino’s Invisible Cities.
The response from the network was remarkable: 120 submissions were sent in by a total of 407 students registered for the contest, from 21 institutions across 12 countries: Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Morocco, Moldova, Portugal, Romania, the United States, and Turkey.
Due to the enthusiastic participation, Office V decided to dedicate a special edition to the contest’s outcomes.
The newsletter features the winning stories and a selection of other notable works, divided into three categories (Schools Under 15, Schools Over 15, and Language Courses), with the addition of a special out-of-competition contribution from a school within Italy.
