The three “Italian Fashion Days in the World” (GMIM) have just concluded in India. This initiative, celebrating excellence and creativity, was launched last January by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the leading fashion industry associations (Confartigianato, Cna, Confindustria Moda, Confindustria Moda Denim, Anfao, Confindustria Accessori Moda, and CNMI), as part of its growth diplomacy efforts.

The series of events in India opened in New Delhi, at the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC), with the presentation of the exhibition “Italy is Fashion.” This exhibition project, promoted by the Directorate General for the Promotion of the Country System (DGSP) and curated by Clara Tosi Pamphili, showcases crafts excellence and technological research in Italy’s fashion and textile sectors through a continuous dialogue between past and future. The exhibition, featuring creations by Romeo Gigli, Federico Cina, Cavia Studi, Alice Ercoli, Marco Rambaldi, Francesco Murano, Durazzi Milano, Magliano, and Tiziano Guardini, will remain open to the public until the end of December.

The GMIM in Delhi also provided an opportunity for dialogue between Italian and Indian creativity. The exhibition opening was accompanied by a roundtable discussion on environmental and social sustainability in the fashion industry, featuring Indian designers David Abraham and Vidyum Singh, in conversation with the Italian design duo of Saman Loira (Francesco Corcione and Francesco Canessa), moderated by IIC Director Andrea Anastasio. The event also featured Matteo Marzotto (MinervaHub) – who delved into the topic “Luxury Production, the Connection between Italy and India” – and Antonio De Matteis (Kiton – Pitti Immagine) – who talked about “Neapolitan Tailoring, an Italian Tradition in the World.” They were both interviewed by Maria Silvia Sacchi, journalist and editor of The Platform.

The “Italian Fashion Days in the World” also stopped in Mumbai on 29 October at the Ice Factory Ballard Estate (IFBE) and in Ahmedabad on 30 October at the Mill Owners Building, the University of Ahmedabad, and the Kasturbhai Lalbhai Museum.
