The Week of Italian Cuisine: Italian aperitifs in Tokyo

The restaurants and pizzerias in Tokyo and in many other places across Japan are celebrating the week of Italian cuisine and for the occasion they have included in their menus aperitifs and dishes from our culinary tradition. The initiative with its rich program of events was presented by the Italian Ambassador, Giorgio Starace, who pointed out that the calendar was created in collaboration with the Consulate General in Osaka, the ICE Agency, the Italian Cultural Institute of Tokyo, ENIT, the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Japan and the Academy of Italian Cuisine. From 18 to 24 November, 111 restaurants that serve Italian cuisine, 27 of the most authentic pizzerias in Japan and 74 bars will offer the Japanese public special menus containing dishes from the Mediterranean diet and Italian-style aperitifs. Moreover, the video dedicated to Italian food, starring Lucius, the main character of Mari Yamazaki’s manga, Thermae Romae, will be published on the first day of the Cuisine Week. The Italian Embassy in Japan has in fact started a cultural collaboration with the Japanese publishing giant, the KADOKAWA Group, with the aim of promoting and enhancing the image of Italy and our Country’s tourist offer through videos and images inspired by Japanese comics (manga) and animation. The video will be broadcast in some of the most important metropolitan and railway lines and stations of Tokyo and Osaka, that are used every day by hundreds of thousands of passengers.
