In Croatia they’re celebrating the Week of Italian Cuisine

ZAGABRIA
In Croazia si celebra la Settimana della Cucina Italiana

A vast and diversified schedule of events will valorize the sustainability of the Mediterranean Diet. This is the project planned by the Italian Embassy in Croatia to celebrate the 6th Annual Week of Italian Cuisine in the World.

The Week will open Monday, November 22 in Zagreb with an exhibition of photography inaugurated by Ambassador Sacco in one of the main plazas of the capital: the exhibition will be centered around two associations ( “Bella Dentro” of Milan and “Fondazione Dieta Mediterranea” of Brindisi) both of which are strongly committed to preventing food waste and promoting the Mediterranean Diet.

As was done last year, the Ambassador has also stipulated an agreement with two of the top Italian restaurants in Zagreb to offer special menus celebratory of Italian cuisine.  The keynote event of the celebration will take place the evening of November 24 with a gala dinner on the subject of sustainability, prepared by the Michelin-starred chef Cracco, attended by exponents of the specialized world of fine food, journalism and local customs.

The Italian Institute of Culture has planned a program of celebratory activities to include lectures, theatrical performances, an exhibition on the connections between Italian design and cuisine and –  concluding the events celebrating the year of Dante – a video demonstration by a Croatian chef and historian of a dish still popular in Italian cuisine and introduced in the days when the Great Poet was alive: castagnaccio, to illustrate the continuity of Italian culinary traditions and the modern appeal of foods that go back to the Middle Ages.

Lastly, the General Consulate in Fiume will hold a competition for the preparation of menus inspired by the Mediterranean Diet, in partnership with the Department of Italian at the University of Fiume; a tasting workshop of different dishes of Italian cuisine; and a series of events in collaboration with Slow Food Istria.
