South Africa – Emilia Romagna unveiled in Pretoria between food and music

“Cucina all’Opera – Musica e Cibo in Emilia Romagna” (“Cooking at the Opera – Music and Food in Emilia Romagna”) is the title of the book that will be presented on 23 November in Pretoria. For the first Week of Italian Cuisine in the World – which will kick off on the 21^st and end on the 27^th of November – entitled “The Extraordinary Italian Taste”, the Italian restaurant “Fumo” (Shop 21, Groenkloof Plaza, George Storrar Drive, Groenkloof) will host the presentation of the book by Giancarlo Fre (who passed away before the release of his book), edited by Margherita Spinazzola. The event is organised by the Italian Cultural Institute in Pretoria in partnership with the Accademia Italiana della Cucina. The book explores the relationship between food and music and exalts a combination that is particularly dear to a region like Emilia-Romagna, which has turned its rich musical tradition and the excellence of its culinary art into points of strength for its economy, tourism and for a quality of life that is widespread and greatly appreciated. “Cooking at the Opera – Music and Food in Emilia Romagna” intertwines the biographies and professional lives of musicians, composers, great performers and their favourite recipes or other significant dishes of their time. By leafing through the pages of the book, it is easy to “come across” Giuseppe Verdi, Arturo Toscanini, Girolamo Frescobaldi, Arcangelo Corelli, up to the more recent Luciano Pavarotti. In all 62 recipes spanning from the classic regional first-course dishes (tortelli alle erbette, passatelli, anolini, pisarei e fasò) to more “exotic” and multicultural preparations.
